Historical Nobel Peace Prize Laureates: Jimmy Carter
The event will be held in Norwegian.
LATE NIGHTS AT THE NOBEL PEACE CENTER
Every Wednesday, the Nobel Peace Center is open until 20:00, with half-price admission from 17:00. And every week, something exciting happens; topical discussions, lectures, film screenings, and themed tours. The events and tours of the exhibitions are included in the ticket, so if you visit us on Wednesday evening, you get extra value for your admission fee.
During the Christmas holidays, James Earl Carter Jr. died at the age of 100. The Nobel Peace Prize winner was called "America's best ex-president" and has been celebrated worldwide for his efforts for peace and democracy. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his "tireless efforts over several decades to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." The committee particularly emphasized the role he played in the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978.
What kind of president was Jimmy Carter, what role has he played as an ex-president, and what legacy does he leave in today's USA, where Donald Trump is being inaugurated as president this week? Welcome to a current and exciting conversation between:
- Olav Njølstad, historian, former director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, and expert on American political history
- Hans Olav Lahlum, historian and author of several books about the USA
- Kjersti Fløgstad, director of the Nobel Peace Center (moderator)
