What you (don’t) want to know about nuclear war and food security
The event will be held in Norwegian/Swedish and will be available as a podcast afterward.
LATE NIGHTS AT THE NOBEL PEACE CENTER
Every Wednesday, the Nobel Peace Center is open until 20:00, with half-price admission from 17:00. And every week, something exciting happens; topical discussions, lectures, film screenings, and themed tours. The events and tours of the exhibitions are included in the ticket, so if you visit us on Wednesday evening, you get extra value for your admission fee.
For us in Norway, it is easy to think that the nuclear weapons threat is about Putin’s nukes. But did you know that we would experience a famine in Norway if a regional nuclear war broke out between, for example, India and Pakistan?
Any nuclear war will have catastrophic humanitarian consequences. But how will the climate and global food production be affected by a nuclear war between India and Pakistan or between Russia and NATO? And exactly what will be the consequences for us living in Norway?
We ask Dr. Kim Scherrer, former researcher at the University of Bergen, who has been part of an international network of researchers studying the potential consequences of nuclear war – for climate, food security, UV radiation, ocean currents, and sea ice. When our elected representatives design the future Norwegian nuclear weapons policy, they should have knowledge of the results of this research.
