Nobel Prize winner Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the 20th century's greatest icons. But who was he really, the pastor, civil rights activist, and advocate of non-violence who, at only 35 years old, received the Nobel Peace Prize, only to be shot and killed four years later?

Earlier this year, author Jonathan Eig won the Pulitzer Prize for King: A Life – the first new biography of Martin Luther King Jr. in several decades. In a book that goes behind the facade and is based on previously classified documents, King is portrayed as a fallible human being but also as a charismatic leader, sharp thinker, and brilliant strategist.
